Investing in Korean dentistry
Korea has one of the most competitive dental markets in the world, and almost none of it is for sale. Before anything else, you should know that.
What stops most people
In Korea, a clinic can only be opened and owned by a licensed doctor or a medical corporation. A foreign investor cannot buy a Korean dental clinic, and an arrangement where an outside investor funds and effectively runs one is a criminal matter, not a grey area.
Most people find this out after three months of meetings. You are finding it out now.
What is actually possible
Two directions are open, and both are real businesses.
The first is everything around the chair rather than the chair itself — equipment, materials, digital dentistry, laboratories, distribution. These are ordinary companies. They take investment, they take partners, and several of them are quietly excellent.
The second is taking Korean dentistry out of Korea. A Korean clinic or dentist joining you to open in your market is not restricted by Korean ownership law, and for the Korean side it is often the growth they cannot find at home.
How I work on this
I work with a dentist who spent more than thirty years as a specialist at a Korean dental university hospital and taught there. He no longer practises, which is exactly why he is useful here — his interest is the field, not a clinic of his own.
From the outside, a clinic's website tells you nothing about its actual standard of care, its finances, or whether it is growing. From the inside, a reputation among dentists is very hard to fake. He reads that landscape for you, and we define what kind of partner your money is actually looking for before anyone is introduced.
Then the meetings, with an interpreter, with me in the room. And afterwards, the part that usually decides everything — whether the relationship survives the first disagreement.
For
Investors and family offices looking at Korean healthcare. Dental groups considering a Korean partner for their own market. Equipment and materials companies looking for a Korean joint venture. Anyone who needs the real map before committing capital.
Where the line is
This is business between companies. It is not patient referral, and I do not arrange treatment for individuals. The dentist I work with joins in a personal capacity and gives you his reading of the field — not a valuation, an audit or legal advice. You will want your own advisors for those, and I can introduce them.
